How many pages have you read since you first learned how to read? How many titles and writers can you recall? How many summaries can you share? How many responses and comments have you shared with family and friends? How many books have become a part of the way you think, love, and live?
Books have always touched the manner we greet each day. In some undeniable aspects, we learn about the past, look into the present, and plan for the future through books. Reading is our venue to know more about living without the risks real circumstances bring. It is our vehicle to vicariously feel what it takes. Imagination has power that surpasses reality. Life has many kinds of pages to offer. The more we see and read different pages, the more we understand what it means to be a human being.
When we say pages, we do not only refer to physical sheets of paper. Pages can be organic – memories and experiences we have every waking moment and/or working hour. Pages are now even produced, consumed, and distributed in their electronic version through social networking sites, audio files, videos, and games, to name a few. Turning a new leaf is synonymous to turning a new page. Supportive or challenging, it is always important to keep in mind that every page counts.
I fell in love with books when I was only five after my father gave me a thick anthology of literary pieces to read. Not a single page made sense. He asked me to read words out loud. I did not know what they meant. I just wanted to impress him with the effort I put to pronounce words that were all foreign to me. My young mind told me that there must be a great significance out of the seemingly pointless exercise. That moment became the very seed of the strong tree that has led me to different “leaves.”
I still remember happily receiving the new copy of Nancy Drew from a classmate who was always willing to share her new acquisitions. Years that follow saw me reading almost anything I found interesting. It did not come a surprise when Literature classes in college grabbed my focus. It continued to lure me until I found myself working on Comparative Literature to complete my master’s degree. Playing with words started to become a resolute core when I labored on writing 50 sonnets to complete my doctor’s thesis.
This site is dedicated for the love of reading and sharing of ideas. Lines from books are reminders of meaningful ideas worth keeping within reach. They reflect the subtleties of the literary elements comprising masterpieces. Stories, presentation, music, comments, events, all contribute to how we strive and grow. Through the entries available here, I thank all the geniuses behind all the pages that have helped me see the beauty of being alive.
